Open Call: Hardrock Asfalt

In 2011 the artist collective from Hamburg, Jochen Schmith, installed an asphalt floor in W139(http://w139.nl/en/article/20076/it-s-only-rock-n-roll-but-we-like-it)

Presently W139 wants to take this floor out and is looking for artists who could make the taking out and recycling/re-using of the floor visible for and with an audience in an ‘unorthodox’ way. The objective is to finally remove the floor completely and reinstate the original floor. Starting point for this project/exhibition is the 6th of May.

The budget is €5000 and is meant for materials, equipment, publicity, tools and fees. At the same time W139 would like to research creative solutions and possible collaborations together with the artist(s).

Proposals must be submitted before the 12th of April.

Specifications of the asphalt floor:

• Total surface is 420m2 asphalt, mixed with granulated steel slag and crystallite
• The thickness of the floor is about 2/2,5cm
• The asphalt has been poured over the existing concrete floor with glass fibre sheets in between.
• The total amount of asphalt is approximately 30.000kg.
