Circular Permutation - in between negative and positive space
Chiman Dangi, Thomas Hawranke, Matteo Maragoni, Anna Moreno, Sara Pape Garcia, Gava Pierfrancesco, Evelina Rajca, Brydee Rood, Evamaria Schaller, Johanna Steindorf, Sissel Marie Tonn, Leinkauf WermkeFor the first exhibition of 2015 W139 presents a group of interdisciplinary artists who individually interpret the imprint of time on space, focusing on the interaction between observation and perception. Each work on display unfolds a different emphasis and reflection within this theme; thus creating an evolving net of expressions that complement as well as challenge each other.
Saturday the 10th of January 2015, at 19.00 the exhibition opens with performances by Matteo Marangoni, Evelina Rajca and Evamaria Schaller.
Matteo Marangoni's work Echo Moiré is a robotic opera-ballet performed by a pair speaker vehicles, using space as their musical instrument. The acoustic dynamics of the architecture of W139 will be explored by the mobile speakers, and the listeners are surrounded by various patterns of echoes rebounding off the walls.
Reasonance by Evelina Rajca represents the third chapter of her piece A Science-Fiction-Collage of the Present Past. Here, soundscapes are created by the oral cavities of performers which are used as resonance chambers, that become activated by another person’s breath.
One of the exhibited audiovisual works is Genki Rocket by Thomas Hawranke. This personal take on information is based on images of a missile test launch in the Iranian desert, which were published in 2008. They were considered as proof, documentation or forgery - depending on the eye of the beholder. Many different images of this Iranian rocket exist on the Internet, but only the Genki Rocket video provided a moving image. Its concentric circle describes a process in which the information of the image is transformed into a thought within society, and how something new can emerge from this.
With lines as “In between future and past thoughts, I am about to swim in a former stone quarry where the stones of a monument were quarried...I am swimming in a monument’s negative space; I close my eyes and imagine travelling from today to 1913 via 1813.” Sara Pape Garcia is drawing unique poetic and bewildering atmospheres which will be outlined throughout a lecture performance and a journal presentation at the finissage, Sunday 18th of January 2015 at 18.00.
