Success and Uncertainty displays twenty-one posters that were made by Sandra Kassenaar and Bart de Baets during their residency in Cairo, which happened to coincide with the outburst of the revolution in Egypt and the resignation of president Hosni Mubarak in spring 2011.

Every day over a period of three weeks, they displayed a new poster in a light-box at the entrance of a gallery in Cairo which reflected and commented on recent events. The posters are composed of politically charged discussions, interviews with locals, international comments on the revolution, symbolics of the peoples movement, statements and observations on daily life as well as gossip in Cairo.

The exhibition is accompanied by the launch of the publication Success and Uncertainty - Back Up, in which Sandra Kassenaar and Bart de Baets look back on their time spent in Cairo and give context to the poster series.

The exhibition is organized by art book shop San Serriffe, which is hosted by W139 for the months of January, February and March. San Serriffe is dedicated to circulate small scale and niche art book publishing. Next to selling books, the shop organizes exhibitions and events that provide context to the selection of books.
